We visit an extended nomadic family that raises horses. The grandmother and grandfather invite our group into their ger, and serve us some traditional Mongolian food. The bulk of the Mongolian diet is made up of meat and dairy products. (Nope, they don't eat anything resembling the stuff called "Mongolian Barbeque" in the U.S.) The elderly couple serve us a kind of sweet cream yogurt made from mare's milk. Another family lets us try curd made from camel's milk, but the taste was so pungent we couldn't get down more than a few crumbs.

The grandfather tells us a story about how he and his wife lived in the (comparatively crowded) capital city of Ulaan Baatar for years when he worked as a truck driver. After he retired, he and his wife moved back to the country, where they resumed a nomadic lifestyle and began raising horses.
