Whale Watching

The morning of our departure, we fit in one last activity: a boat trip to see humpback whales. We happen to be here during the peak of whale watching season, when the whales come to Maui to give birth and mate. From the beach you can see spouts of water when the whales come to the surface, and an occasional bit of a whale's back as the whale sounds. We even see some waterspouts from our hotel room.

Anya's not sure why we're out on a boat, but dad's having fun

Anya is so excited, she... falls asleep

Liya's so excited, she takes a nap too

We do see lots of whales, but the boat has to keep its distance from them, so it's not too surprising the girls lose interest.

Mostly we see little bits of whale, like this

Even without the whales, a day on the ocean off the Maui coast is still gorgeous
