Submarine Trip

An outfit called Atlantis Submarines runs passenger submarines that dive beneath the surface of the ocean, and they have a sub based in Lahaina, just a bit south of where we're staying. Jan's been dying for an excuse to go, so decides that Anya would really be interested in a submarine trip. (Liya's too short to meet the minimum height requirement—all passengers have to be able to climb down a ladder into the sub.)

Anya waits for the boat that will take us out to the sub

At sea

Our little sub awaits

It's about the size of a school bus inside, and everyone has a good view

Anya settles in

Getting deeper. Anya gets more and more squirrelly and starts hopping around the seats.

The sub goes pretty deep. Here we're 130 ft. below the surface—about the limit of what a recreational scuba diver would ever do—but the sub eventually reaches a depth of 150 ft.

This far down, very little except the color blue is visible, but there sure are a ton of fish on this coral reef

The novelty of being far beneath the waves is somewhat lost on Anya, who decides to take a nap

Once we get back to shore, Jan decides they should return to the hotel via a train for tourists called the Sugar Cane Train.

Anya loooooves trains

At one point the train even crosses a little trestle

Happy train passengers
