Liya Katerina MiksovskyAugust 28, 2003
Today our second daughter, Liya Katerina Miksovsky, was born! Liya played a lot of games with us during this pregnancy, and we weren't sure when she would ever come. Angela had one false labor in the middle of August that brought us to the hospital, but the contractions faded and they sent us home. On Thursday, August 28, around 1:00 in the afternoon, Angela goes into labor again. She calls Jan home from work, and we head to the hospital again. Angela's contractions are more steady and painful this time, so we're sure the baby's on its way—but after the nurses have Angela lie down to be monitored, the contractions start to taper off. It looks like we'll go home empty handed again. We're getting ready to leave when Angela's doctor offers us the option of inducing labor, since the baby is already very close to term. We're eager to move things along and decide to have the baby right now.
With just a little nudge, labor picks up again and goes quickly and smoothly. They start things around 7:30, and at 10:38 pm, Liya is born!
We decided on the name Liya a little while back, but when Liya first arrives, we're not exactly sure she looks like a Liya. For the first half-day of her life, she's just Baby Girl Miksovsky. By Friday morning her face is changing and she's starting to look more and more to us like she is a Liya. Liya she is.
Liya's very alert, and her eyes are open and constantly looking about. Her most common expression seems to say, "Just what the heck is going on here?"
We're all very happy and doing very well!
