Hawaii — June 2003

Poolside

For Anya, the only thing more fun than the beach is the pool. We've been taking her to swimming lessons since she was about seven months old. She still can't swim on her own yet, but she's completely comfortable in the water, kicks with her feet, paddles with her hands, can go underwater for a second. On our trip she finally gets the hang of blowing bubbles in the water.

As Anya paddles with her hands, she says, "Hand... hand... hand... hand..."

Tickling Daddy's toes

After four days on Oahu, we take a short flight to the Big Island of Hawai'i. As far as Anya is concerned, this change of venue just means the opportunity to sample more pools.

One pool has a waterfall ("wawafa")

The coolest kiddie pool we've ever seen—with a sandy bottom, plus a beach at one end

All this outdoor activity leads (thankfully) to rest
