Lite Fruit Bowl

The Lite Fruit Bowl lets the user know when it's time to buy more fruit.

I first turned this Makori wood bowl on a traditional wood lathe. Then, through some tricky milling maching work, I was able to create voids in the bowl's wall. These voids were then packed with lead shot and sand. By carefully shaping the outer wall's curvature, I was able to make the bowl rest on its six inch flat base when it contains at least one piece of fruit. However, when that last piece of fruit is removed the bowl magically levitates, announcing its emptiness.
