Chris' Graduation

June 2002

Jan's brother Chris graduated from graduate school at Stanford University with a master's degree in product design. We fly down to Stanford a few days earlier to hang out with family members. A couple of days before graduation we take a trip to see the beach.

It's Anya's first trip ever to a beach. We put her on the sand, which she likes... and tries to eat.

The day before graduation, the Product Design program hosts a presentation at which Chris and the other graduating students present their thesis projects. Chris presents his Flowrider cars, cooperative hand-powered vehicles for kids. The cars have the ability to move both forwards/backwards and laterally, which provides for surprising movement and direction changes. After the presentations are over, the school throws a reception where overgrown kids could try out the Flowriders. You can read more about the Flowrider cars at Chris' design site.

The entire university has an enormous graduation ceremony in the Stanford stadium, followed by smaller ceremonies for the individual schools.

The happy graduate and family
